John Whiteside Parsons (born Marvel Whiteside Parsons) (October 2, 1914 in Los Angeles,California – June 17, 1952 in Pasadena, California), better known as Jack Parsons, was anAmerican rocket propulsion researcher at the California Institute of Technology and a pioneer in solid rocket fuel research and development. He was one of the principal founders of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Aerojet Corp.

Parsons was also an occultist and one of the first Americans to take a keen interest in the writings of English author and Thelema’s founder Aleister Crowley. In this capacity, he joined and eventually led an American lodge of Crowley’s magical order, Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.).^[1]

Parsons saw no contradiction between his scientific and magical pursuits. Before each rocket test launch, Parsons would chant Crowley’s hymn to the Greek god Pan.^[5] In 1942 Parsons was chosen by Aleister Crowley to lead Agapé Lodge of OTO in California following Crowley’s expulsion of Wilfred Smith from the position.^[6]

Parsons and Helen Northrup were married in April 1935.^[7]

Sara Northrup (aka “Sarah Elizabeth” or “Betty” Northrup), began living with Parsons and Parsons’ wife, Sara’s half-sister Helen Northrup; later, Parsons and Sara started an affair, which caused strife with Helen and eventually led to Helen leaving with Wilfred Smith.

Parsons’ 11-room home, nicknamed “The Parsonage”, became a boarding house for a variety of artists and eccentrics, including journalistNieson Himmel, physicist Robert Cornog, and author and future Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard became involved with Parsons’ mistress Sara Northrup and they later married.

We all see the moon everynight, but how many of us really stop to consider how much of an enigma it is. A summation of over 170 moons in our own solar system reveal that Earth’s natural satellite is indeed unique. For one, it is proportionately much larger than any of the other planet’s moon(s). My favorite interesting moon fact is that, from Earth’s view, the sun and moon look very close to the same size. This is fascinating because the moon is smaller than the earth and over 200,000 miles away. The sun is over 11,000 times larger than the earth (surface area) and 92 million miles away. What are the chances that they would align up to make a perfect eclipse?! Truly amazing. This happens on zero other planets in our solar system.

• The Earth–Moon system is unique in that the ratio of the mass of the Moon to the mass of the Earth is much greater than that of any other moon–planet ratio in the Solar System.

• Mercury has no moon.

• Mars has Phobos and Diemos and they are very tiny and asymmetrical.

The sun looks much smaller from planets that are further from it, so even small moons often completely obliterate the sun.

The documentary, The Secret Life of Plants is an ecclectic collection of scientific experiments, anthropology and art. Studies show that plants are more aware than most give them credit. This amazing documentary includes:

• Pioneering Indian scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose shows similarities between plant and animal tissue, suggesting that plants have a sensory system like that of humans.

• Cleve Baxter, polygraph expert, demonstrates a plant’s amazing (seemingly psychic) sensory abilities.

• Parapsychology researcher, Randy Fontes shows a plant responding to human emotional responses.

• The Dogon tribe is also investigated in an effort to understand unexplained conscience connections.

Newton wrote more about alchemy than math and science combined.

Sir Isaac Newton is certainly one of the greatest scientists of all time. His most notable achievements include:

• Pointing out the force of gravity
• Designing a version of the telescope which is still in use today
• Creating equations for measuring the movement of planets in his masterwork
   Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (His formulas are still used today).

Newton was a mathematical and scientific genius, but he spent most of his time decoding and experimenting with alchemy. Newton believed the Greek myths were actually codes for alchemy recipes (see George Starkey). This may sound absurd, but in fact, an Indiana University professor has recreated many of Newton’s alchemical experiments with great success. 

Most alchemists were on a quest for the “Philosopher’s Stone” which is said to have the ability to change other metals into gold. Some speculate that perhaps Newton did find a way to create this mysterious substance because of a sudden and unexpected career change…

Sir Newton gave up the most famous academic chair in the world, The Lucasian Professor of Mathematics (which was recently held by Stephen Hawking) to become the  Appointment to the Royal Mint and eventually Master of the Mint (the guy in charge of all the money in England).

Newton even took a stab at at decoding the Bible to find the date for the end of the world. His calculations suggest the year of 2060.
